Cleaning the car seat is very easy to neglect for some people, however, if your seats have leather fabric on it then keeping them in good condition can make your overall car interior look fresh.
The leather fabric, specifically for cars are good to save you from wear and tear from dirt and spills. Once you are aware of how to maintain your leather fabric, then you can actually save a lot on the maintenance of your car seating.
Preserving leather fabric seats is easy. Let’s have a look at the simple steps that can make your car cleaning actually a cool breeze.
- Vacuum cleaning
A car seat collects all kinds of dirt including food particles, dust, wrappers, etc. While starting to clean the car seats, do not think of directly jumping onto using external chemicals on your leather fabric. So take care not to start with water or any cleanser. Start with getting rid of the dirt by using a vacuum cleaner on your seats.
Along with the vacuum cleaner, you need its attachments including brushes. Attachments are important in reaching out to those areas that are difficult to clean manually with your hands. From floor mats to your seat folds, a vacuum cleaner can make your car interior look extremely clutter-free.
Running vacuum cleaner on leather is really easy because of its texture. So, it does not require any extra effort to remove the dust particles from the fabric’s fibres. Once you clear off the dust particles, move on to the next step.
- Clean it with cleanser
Before buying any expensive cleanser, make sure you read the car manual properly. Try this step only if your seats are really dirty and have a layer of dust on them. You can buy good leather fabric cleaner from the market and try wiping it with a microfiber towel.
Make sure you use a mild cleanser on your leather seats in order to save them from the harsh properties of the cleanser. If you are not really impressed with the idea of using any commercial cleaner, you can make your own. Take three parts of vinegar and one part of the water in a spray bottle. Shake it well, spray it on the area where dirt is accumulated over the time and wipe it. You can even use a soft brush to scrub the stains. For better results, repeat this method once in a month.
This is a very important step in maintaining your car seat leather fabric and making it durable. Conditioning leather fabric can make your seats soft and preserve the colour for a longer period of time. Always avoid cheap conditioners having silicone or harsh waxes.
Choose a small portion of the seat where you can apply the conditioner as a tester to make sure it is not damaging the colour. Apply it with a soft sponge or a cloth to give the leather its original shine back.
Note: Do not apply the conditioner in too much quantity as it can make the leather fabric look greasy. Always take it in an appropriate quantity to get positive results.
